Honoring Lahaina

On both campuses, Students and faculty gathered in a circle to mark the one-year anniversary of the devastating wildfires that occurred last year in Lahaina and Kula. We sang together and heard moving and inspiring words from Kumu Leihua.

At the Kealahou campus, we planted an Ulu tree together in the garden. As it was planted, we had a moment of silence, sang together, and took turns adding soil and water to support this symbol of new life and growth. Community members are encouraged to take a moment and acknowledge this tree at any time, sharing their aloha with the people whose lives were impacted one year ago.
